Adult Summer Reading Program and Events
Summer is here and so is our Adult Summer Reading Program!! This year’s theme is Build a Better World, and the programming we have lined up for this summer is taking on all aspects of this theme. Sign up by coming to the library or giving us a call.
We will also be offering a weekly raffle. Read or listen to any book or attend any program and enter your name into our weekly raffle to win a $15 gift card to one of three local area businesses: White Square Books, Small Oven Bakery or Tandem Bagel Company! Each ticket will also be entered to win our GRAND PRIZE of a $50 Easthampton Chamber of Commerce gift card !

Adult Summer Reading Event Schedule:
Wednesday, June 28, 6-7pm. Birds of Prey with Tom Ricardi.
Join us in welcoming Tom Ricardi, of the Western Massachusetts Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Center, for an interactive presentation featuring live birds of prey. Tom will talk to us about urgent environmental concerns. Registration required. Call or come into the library to sign up.
Wednesday, July 5, 5:30-7:30pm. Drop-in Art Buffet. Do you love making crafts or want to give it a try? Join us at Art Buffet!! We provide the materials, you just drop in anytime during the program. This month, we’ll also be exploring the Build a Better World theme by building a book!
Thursday, July 6, 10-11am. Tai Chi with Janet. Build a better mind body connection! Join Janet Aalfs, founder & director of Lotus Peace Arts at Valley Women’s Martial Arts, for adult Tai Chi. Janet is a 7th degree black belt in Shuri-ryu Okinawan Karate, a 6th degree black belt in Filipino Modern Arnis, a nationally certified teacher of empowerment and self-protection skills, and an instructor of Liangong, Tai Chi, and Qigong through Jian Mei Internal Martial Arts. Registration required. Call or come in to sign up.
Thursday, July 13, 6-7pm. Walking Tour of Mutters Field Accessible Trail with Marty Klein. Join Pascommuck Conservation Trust board member Marty Klein on a tour of their award winning Mutter’s Field Accessible Trail, “A Place in Nature for Everyone.” Completed in 2016, the trail has been embraced by the community as a tranquil place to enjoy nature’s beauty and has become one of Easthampton’s “special places.” Participants should meet at the East St. entrance. In the event that lot is full, parking is available along East Green Street. Enter the trail at the end of the street and proceed to the East St. trail head to meet the group.
Saturday, July 15, 11:15-12:30pm. Storytelling & Writing Group. Looking for a kind and comfortable atmosphere to share a story or discover inspiration? Individuals with any amount of experience are invited! Bring a story in progress or just your curious self. Meetings led by professional storyteller Dr. Gail N. Herman.
Tuesday, July 18, 6:30-7:30pm. Guitar Circle with Lynne. Join Lynne Knudsen for the first meeting of a new, ongoing guitar circle! Bring your string instrument, voice, or both. Lynne will be bringing sheet music to share, and invites others to bring their favorite music. This month, she’ll focus on international music to follow the Build a Better World theme.

Thursday, July 20, 10-11am. Yoga with Rebeca. Build a better mind, body and spirit! Join Rebeca Allessi, yoga instructor at the Karuna Center for Yoga & Healing Arts and local school communities, for adult yoga. Registration required. A limited number of mats will be provided.
Wednesday, July 26. 6-7:30pm. Build a Better World Book Discussion. Join Nancy Stenberg in discussing Waking Up White: and Finding Myself in the Story of Race, by Debby Irving. Saturday, August 5. 12-2pm. Build a Better World Summer Reading potluck. And finally, join us to celebrate at our Build a Better World end of Summer Reading potluck, featuring the music of Crimson Canary! Guitarist David Chu and vocalist Lonnie Chu will be performing flamenco and a variety of other international songs.
