The Library is so pleased to be teaming up with area libraries to read the book, Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison by Piper Kerman.
We have developed a full calendar of programming related to the topics of this book and everyone is welcome to attend programs at any of these libraries:

The programs that will be presented at the Emily Williston Memorial Library are:

Saturday, March 25, 1-2pm — Voices Carry:

Readings of poetry and other writings by women participating in the group, Voices from Inside, an organization that offers writing workshops for women who are or have been incarcerated, and also for girls and women who are at risk for incarceration.

Monday, March 27, 6:30-8pm — Book Discussion

Tuesday, April 4, 9:30-11am — Coffee with a Cop:

Chad Alexander and other community relations officers will be at the library to drink coffee and talk about any topics members of the public are interested in discussing.

Wednesday, April 5, 6:30-7:30pm — Prison Policy Initiative:

In December 2016 the Prison Policy Initiative, based in Easthampton, published a report regarding probation fees and the disproportionate burden these fees put on poorer communities.Members of Prison Policy Initiative will discuss the report’s findings.

Wednesday, April 12, 1-3pm — Book Discussion
