Teen Bookbinding Workshop
Mar 1 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm

In this class, led by artist Lisa Hersey of Antler Editions, we will explore different bookbinding techniques that can be recreated at home. Making a book can be as simple as folding one sheet of paper, or involve 16 pages and sewing! Students will learn how to put content into their books for reproducing editions of their work for themselves or to bring to Press On: Indie Publishing Festival! We will have time to work together and create original books by either decorating the covers, or putting words/drawings onto the pages. Ages 12+, participants must be able to hold and handle a needle. Space is limited, sign up at the library in person or by calling us at 413-527-1031 or emailing us at youthdept@ewmlibrary.org.

All materials and tools will be provided to students.

Bio: Lisa has been a bookbinder working in the Valley for over ten years. She specializes in creating boxes and enjoys working closely with clients. She was immediately hooked on bookbinding after taking her first class in 2009 at Montserrat College of Art where she received her degree and an award in her concentration. What she loves most about bookbinding is the interaction between viewer and object.

Lisa has been teaching for 5 years and is excited to begin to offer classes directly out of her studio where she feels most at home. Hosting both group and individual classes, Lisa hopes to spread the love of bookbinding to both newcomers and those with experience.
