New Library Director, Katya Schapiro!

We are excited to announce the hiring of our new library Director, Katya Schapiro! Katya comes to us from Brooklyn, New York after ten years with the Brooklyn Public Library system. Her background also includes experience as a theatrical producer and creator, grant programs coordinator, media archivist, and non-profit General Manager.

Katya grew up in Northampton and has a deep love for the area. It’s a win-win situation for us all as Katya and her partner Jeremy have been wanting to move back to the Valley to be with family and enjoy the qualities they have missed in a vibrant smaller city. And, as everyone knows, there is no better way to get to know the heart of a town than to go straight to the library.

Katya is looking forward to developing and implementing new initiatives that will allow the Library to better serve the Easthampton community as a whole. As we begin to shift our focus to a possible move to a new location, to explore increased funding challenges, and to assess shifting local needs, we are thrilled to have such a strong leader representing our library. She will begin on December 6th and is excited to get to work and meet everyone!
