EHYC Parenting Club (With a Book!)

Anne Talley of the Easthampton Healthy Youth Coalition will host a Parenting Club (with a Book), open to the public. You do not have to read the book in order to attend the discussion. The books under discussion will be available in limited quantity to check out at the Library, at least one month prior to the meeting.

The discussion title for January 11 will be Brainstorm, by Daniel Siegel.

The discussion title for April 26 will be Raising Humans in a Digital World by Diana Graber

Raising Humans in a Digital World: For Parents of Children from 0-11

Easthampton Public Schools, Easthampton Healthy Youth Coalition, Emily Williston Memorial Library and the Easthampton PTO present a FREE ZOOM webinar: Raising Humans in a Digital World 

For Parents of Children from 0-11 October 13, 6:30 p.m. EST 

This is a virtual program and will be presented via Zoom.

Our digital media world can be a scary, dangerous place, especially for children. Digital Literacy educator, advocate, and frequent contributor to Psychology Today Diana Graber will share with us how parents and caregivers can help our kids navigate this environment and build a healthy relationship with technology.

This presentation is addressed to parents of young children and will cover: a developmentally appropriate introduction to tech, social and emotional skill development, screen time, over-sharenting, alternative phones, parental controls, the games young kids love (Roblox & Minecraft) and more.

Topics will include: digital reputation management, screen time and balance, the most popular social media platforms amongst teens (TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat), maintaining online privacy, and much more. It overviews other topics in my book and a discussion guide would be sent to you afterwards so attendees may continue to discuss topics after the presentation.

Drop-in for a presentation by Jodi Ross and Joyce Szewczynski, followed by Q&A. Easthampton Neighbors is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) that matches local volunteers with senior members to provide support that is not available through other organizations. Learn more at easthamptonneighbors.org

Jodi Ross, Administrator/Program Coordinator: From her previous work with Birthday Wishes, Inc., Jodi brings to Easthampton Neighbors managerial and administrative skills. Her experience in the nonprofit world will be most helpful as EN moves to implement new programs and expand our volunteer and membership pools. In her spare time, Jodi enjoys crocheting (big time), reading and traveling.

Joyce Szewczynski, Board Member: Joyce is a retired professor of Spanish who has lived in Southampton with her family for 47 years. She was formerly Chair of the Humanities Department at Springfield College. She is a devoted member of Easthampton Neighbors whose leadership on the Board is essential to the organization. Aside from her volunteer work, Joyce enjoys traveling, reading, movies and visiting with family and friends.
